Kallgården is an old house, built on standing timber from the local area that
was moved here in 1929. It was Mrs. Winblad and Mrs. Stenberg who started the
hotel in order to have something to do after their husbands died.
At the time, Kallgården had 18 beds, 6 double and 6 single rooms. The hotel was
considered first class since it could offer its guests both electric light and
hot and cold running water in every room.
In order to run the hotel, the ladies had four employees: a cook, a waitress, a
caretaker and a maid. A bed with full board cost 5.50 SEK.
Mrs. Winblad past away in 1935. Her daughter, Gun Orrell, then took her mother's
share of the hotel and ran it along with Mrs. Stenberg. When Mrs. Stenberg
passed away in 1945, Kallgården was sold to Torsten and Britta Hising.
The log-cabin was brought from Grötom, 3 km west of Kall. Gammelgården was
brought from Fäviken and in the winter they took Lillstugan from Gråsjön by
weasel.
Torsten and Britta thought the prices at Kallgården were too low, so Torsten
went to the Price Office in Östersund and requested permission to raise the
price from 5.50 to 8.00. The request was granted.
In 1967, the large conference room, the reception section and the recreation
room was built.
In 1983, the apartment section and the culvert were finished, and with this
extension Kallgården became larger, with approximately 100 beds.
In 1989, the hotel was sold to Sven-Otto Holmborn who later drove it into
bankruptcy.
In 1994, Åre municipality bought Kallgården, thanks to Bosse Lundmark. The hotel
was operated by third year students at the Hotel & Restaurant programme along
with their teachers.
In 2004, Kallgården was bought by the Hänninge/Säflund family.
In 2006, Kallgården was bought by the Sundin family, who carried out a major
renovation of the hotel, both inside and out. Among the new additions to the
hotel was a relaxation area.
